1. What is The Prize about?
The Prize is intended to acknowledge and honour outstanding contribution rendered for the benefit of Indian citizens in the country with a motto of social upliftment.
2. Who administers the SJF Prize scheme?
The SJF Prize scheme is administered by the Prize Secretariat established by SJ Foundation.
3. What are the activities of the Foundation?
The Foundation is an apolitical, non-religious, charitable trust engaged in the field of education and health with special emphasis on nature cure.
The Foundation has set up several educational institutions and hospitals. The Foundation extends financial support to other charitable institutions to sustain their activities. It assists the poor and deserving students through scholarships.

4. Who is eligible for the Prizes?
Any individual, a group of individuals or organization rendering significant service towards human welfare, without profit motive can be nominated for the prize.
5. Who can make a nomination?
An eminent person aware of nominee's moral fiber, integrity and his outstanding contribution to the cause of mankind can propose anyone, except himself

No
7. How do I get the prescribed nomination form?

8. What are the Prize categories?
There shall be 7 (Seven) Prizes of Rs. One Crore each to be conferred annually in each of the following fields.
- Agriculture, Rural Development & Poverty Alleviation;
- Healthcare – including drugless healing and naturecure;
- Education - with emphasis on moral upliftment;
- Science, Technology and Environment;
- Peace, Social Harmony & Social Development.
- Crusade against corruption.
- Exemplary service to mankind in any field.
A maximum of two awardees in fields a) to e) and a maximum of five awardees in fields f) and g) can be jointly awarded prizes.
One additional Prize of Rs. 1 Crore can also be given if seconded by the Patron and approved by the Jury.
9. What are the constituents of the Prize?
The Prize consists of a trophy, a citation and the prize amount of Rs. one crore each.
10. How many nominations can be made by a nominator ?
A person is entitled to make only one nomination.
11. When can a nomination be made?
The process of accepting nominations generally takes place during a pre- announced time mentioned on the website. Dates are also announced through press advertisements at the relevant time. The nominations for SJF Prize-2012 are now open till 16th May 2012.
12. What language can be used for making a nomination?
Nomination can be made either in Hindi or in English. A certified English version needs to be attached in respect of annexures in other languages.
13. Is re-nomination permissible in the subsequent year?
There is no bar on making a re-nomination. Selection will be based on merit. However a nomination sent earlier stands valid for 2 subsequent years. The nominee shall send additional information and new achievements if not included in the earlier nomination. The organisation will have to send the Annual Report, Audited Balance Sheet and Income and Expenditure Statement for latest period.
14. How will results of selection be announced?
Prizes are generally awarded in September. Results of selection are announced on the date of conferment of the Prize.
15. What is the constitution of the Jury?
The Jury comprises of seven eminent persons drawn from the fields of judiciary, civil services and subject experts.
16. What are the privileges of awardees?
The awardees shall have the option to use Prize emblem or symbol with their names on their letterhead writing pads or in advertisements issued by them in good faith.
The awardees can recommend to the Foundation, three cases in a year for the grant of scholarships to eligible poor and meritorious students and one case for grant of donation to any eligible charitable institution rendering commendable services.
17. What are the obligations of awardees?
The Secretariat shall reserve the right to use the winner's name, nomination forms, photographs and other details of publications and any other materials submitted, for promotion, visibility and other publicity needs, including advertisement.
The prizewinner shall be responsible for the payment of Income Tax or any other tax or levy payable, if any, on the prize amount
18. What are the consequences of an award having been secured on the basis of misrepresentation or concealment of material facts?
The Jury in office may, as an exceptional case, decide to withdraw the honour bestowed on such awardees.
19. What is the role of the Foundation in the selection by the Jury?
The Jury shall be endowed with complete independence in finalizing names of the awardees. The Foundation, the Trustees, the executive Committee of the Foundation shall have no say in the selection by the Jury.
20. What are the broad parameters for assessing a nomination for award of the prize?
- That the work done by the nominee is of exceptional nature;
- That the nominee's efforts have contributed towards lessening of corruption, human suffering and the upliftment of the poor and the underprivileged;
- That the nominee's work has promoted honesty, peace, ethical practices, harmony and brotherhood among people;
- That the benefit of accomplishments, both in terms of geographical coverage and the number of people, has reached a large number of people
- That the nominee's work has significant impact, whether in the short or long-term, on the problems being faced by the country.
- That the nominee's work has acquired general acceptance among the public ;
- That the work has helped the weaker sections of society;
- That the work has motivated people towards self help and self reliance and following ethical practices;
- That the nominee is not working with any political aim or for any community, religion or caste for personal profit, commercial gain or other self interest.
- That the nominee has made contribution towards improving standards of human life
- Integrity & commitment of the nominee towards serving the poor/society selflessly.
- For 'SJF Prize' for Crusade against Corruption, the work of the Nominee should have exposed erring public servants, contractors and others for their corrupt acts, favourtism, malafide, unethical/ immoral practices and has helped people in general by constantly working boldly with painstaking efforts.
