Amar Sewa Sangam
Rendering Service to over 14000 disabled persons
Amar Sewa Sangam, started in 1981 by Shri Rama Krishnan, a wheel chair quadriplegic and later joined by Shri S. Shankara Raman suffering from muscular dystrophy, is dedicated for improving the quality of life of physically challenged persons. They are not only providing treatment of young physically handicapped but also arranging for their education, rehabilitation and mainstreaming with the society. They are running a children’s home for 5 to 14 year old where shelter, food, medical attendance, mobility appliances and education are given free to 72 children. In their orthotics centre, over 350 consultations, 286 appliances were given in a year and 1268 appliances repaired. They are providing vocational training to more than 500 physically challenged students in a year. They are running a school providing an integrated environment among the normal and disabled children. They are also running a free Sangamam School with 83 mentally retarded children.
Amar Sewa Sangam is awarded ‘S R Jindal Prize– 2012’ at the hands of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar ji jointly with Smt. Fulbasan Yadav, Bharat Sevashram Sangha, Shri T.Duryodhana Reddy, and Shri Dipendra Manocha in the field of ‘Exemplary Service to Mankind’. The Award carries a Cash Prize of Rs. 1 Crore to be shared equally.
