Aravind Eye Hospitals
Quality eye care to 27 lakh patients every year
Aravind Eye Hospitals, established in 1976 with the objective of removing blindness in the country, is one of outstanding institutions of the country which has revolutionised the management of patients with eye problems in the country. They have established replicable standards of care and have also been instrumental in promoting research and developing world class lenses at affordable price. Over 6000 practicing eye care professionals/ doctors have been trained at Aravind. In order to avoid delay and dependence on eye camps, it has established 36 vision centres and 5 community centres for outpatients in rural communities.
Through their network of eight hospitals, they are performing 3 lakh surgeries and laser procedures with 27 lakh outpatients every year. Over 76000 surgeries are performed through outreach camps each year. 52% patients are treated free or at a subsidised rate. The institution embodies excellence in professionalism as well as high quality, low cost eye care.
Aravind Eye Hospitals is awarded ‘SR Jindal Prize – 2012’ at the hands of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar ji jointly with ‘The Banyan, Chennai’ for their exceptional achievements in the field of Health, including drugless healing and nature cure. The Award carries a Cash Prize of Rs. 1 Crore to be shared equally.
