Literacy through Ekal Vidyalaya movements running over 38,000 schools
Bharat Lok Shiksha Parishad is committed to improve literacy in unserved areas of the country and to create awareness and interest for education on the concept of ‘One Teacher School’. Through its 38,000 non-formal schools under ‘Ekal Vidyalaya Abhiyan’,BLSP is providing education to about 12 lakh children in remote, unserved and neglected hamlets of rural and tribal India. The emphasis is not only on literacy but also on social harmony and social development by creating awareness on prohibition, improved agricultural practices, sanitation and basic health education etc. With their intervention, Bharat Lok Shiksha Parishad is preparing the youth in the remote areas of the country to join mainstream to contribute towards nation building.
Bharat Lok Shiksha Parishad is awarded ‘S R Jindal Prize – 2012’ at the hands of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar ji for their exceptional achievements in the field of Peace, Social Harmony & Social Development. The Award carries a Cash Prize of Rs. 1 Crore.
