Bharat Sevashram Sangha
Bharat Sevashram Sangha a philanthropic organization run by selfless workers is undertaking the treatment and rehabilitation of leprosy patients in the badly affected areas of Jharkhand, bringing down the leprosy prevalence rate from 14.9 per 10000 population in 1981 to 1.9 by March 1998. They are running two hospitals and one mercy home. The regional leprosy elimination goal was achieved in 2005 by their relentless efforts. Singhbhum district in Jharkhand and Mayurbhanj of Odisha have benefitted. They are also running cancer patients home where over 2000 patients were treated and counselled last year. They are also providing selfless voluntary service during natural calamities of flood, famine, earthquake, cyclone etc.
Bharat Sevashram Sangha is rendering commendable selfless service with extreme dedication for “most looked down upon” leprosy patients in the country.
Bharat Sevashram Sangha is awarded ‘S R Jindal Prize – 2012’ at the hands of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar ji jointly with Smt. Fulbasan Yadav, Shri.T.Duryodhana Reddy, Shri Dipendra Manocha, and Amar Sewa Sangam in the field of ‘Exemplary Service to Mankind’. The Award carries a Cash Prize of Rs. 1 Crore to be shared equally.
